Real Texture in Painting:

Impasto is the technique of thickly applying paint to a surface.  The impasto technique creates real texture by the way the paint is raised from the surface.

Implied Texture: Implied texture is sometimes called "visual texture" because it refers to the way a work of art looks like it would feel if what was drawn or painted could be touched.  Think of a photograph of a tree; the tree has texture but if you touched the photograph the surface would be smooth. Artists create implied texture through the use of line and value.
